Religious Education
At Moor Park we use Discovery RE to deliver the Lancashire Agreed Syllabus. This has been designed to reflect the religious profile of Lancashire of which Blackpool is a part.
We live in an increasingly diverse society where all religions and worldviews are represented and therefore Religious Education is a major part of a child’s education and development which should begin at an early age.
The teachers at Moor Park ensure that RE is an engaging and stimulating subject that enables pupils to embark on their personal search for meaning as they question what it means to be human. Pupils have the opportunity to share their own experiences of life and explore their identity whilst developing an understanding of others.
RE is taught as part of our broad and balanced curriculum and contributes to the pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. It is taught each week in all years from FS to Y6. During their time at Moor Park pupils will study Christianity for a minimum of 50% of the allocated time and will also study units on the other major world religions (Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism) and worldviews such as Humanism. Pupils will be taught through an inquiry based approach where children will be encouraged to be curious and question what they see and experience.
Parents do have a right to withdraw their child from part or all of the Religious Education curriculum provided (DFES Circular 1/94 sections 46 – 49). However, the school teaches an open minded religious education which is fully inclusive and is no way intended to indoctrinate children. The aim is for all pupils to develop their own beliefs and values. Any parent considering exercising the right of withdrawal is invited to make an appointment with staff to discuss the approach we take to the teaching of RE.
