Design & Technology

"Design is a funny word. Some people think design means how it looks. But of course, if you look deeper, it's really how it works."

- Steve Jobs (Industrial designer)

"Technology makes possibilities. Design makes solutions."

- John Maeda (Technologist and designer)

The DT curriculum at Moor Park Primary School is intended to prepare children to deal with our rapidly changing world and embody some of the highest forms of human creativity. The teaching of DT encourages children to become independent, creative problem solvers and thinkers both as individuals and as part of a team.

Thinking critically enables them to identify needs and opportunities and to respond to them by developing a range of ideas and by making products and systems.

Through the study of Design and Technology, the children are given the opportunity to combine practical skills with an understanding of aesthetic, social and environmental issues, as well as functions and industry.

It also allows them to reflect on and evaluate past and present technology, it's uses and impacts.

It is the intent for Design Technology to be taught in all year groups through one topic per term, which includes one food related topic per year. Design Technology projects are often made cross curricular - linking to many other subjects taught.
