The company FSC has provided us with some ideas for parents to encourage outdoor learning for their children

FSC Ideas

Dear Parents,

The DfE have created a virtual school called the Oak National Academy. This is an online school, led by qualified teachers, which your child can access each day at https://www.thenational.academy. The website will run on any device as long as it has a web browser (we have managed to get it running on our smart TV that is 7 years old!!!). I would strongly ask that you use this to support learning at home.

Each lesson typically lasts up to an hour and there are three lessons a day - an English lesson, a foundation subject lesson and a mathematics lesson. The lessons follow the same structure we use in school with some quick quizzes, instructional teaching and then a quick quiz.

On a personal level, I have found them to be great and they have dramatically reduced the stress of home teaching my two children over the days they have been doing them. My children have LOVED them.

Hope you are all well,

Mr Kirkpatrick

Parent Zone

Parent Zone is a helpful website which aims to keep children safer online and educate them for a 'digital future'. They also have a Parent Information Service which has been developed by Parent Zone and CEOP and they provide useful advice and articles to help parents support their children online. Parents please take a look at this link. It will take you to Parent Zone's website where you can find more information about their FREE 3 month membership in response to the school closure period.

Maths Factor

If any parents are needing help teaching maths to their child, then please make use of this link - www.themathsfactor.com. This website has been created by Carol Vorderman and usually it would cost £2 a week to sign up, but Carol has kindly made it free to sign up during the school closure period.
