The Hive
Welcome to our Hive. This provision is a Resource Provision within our mainstream setting. This offers tailored provision for children with Educational Health Care Plans who require a higher level of support. Taking a holistic approach, children will access a bespoke curriculum tailored to specifically meet their individual needs. Having a hybrid model between the Hive and mainstream classes, enhances the children's opportunities to access key learning or learning of interest. Developing skills such as independence, social interactions and tolerance of others, aspiring for integration into the mainstream classrooms wherever possible. Maintaining friendships of the wider community of school ensuring a sense of belonging in our Moor Park family.
What Makes Our Curriculum Special?
Inclusive & Personalised:
We follow a flexible, evidence-based approach that adapts to each child's strengths and needs.
Inspired by Research:
Our curriculum is built using the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework and other proven strategies to ensure every child can succeed.
We have three Learning Pathways:
Embrace Pathway - for children at the earliest stages of development, focusing on sensory experiences, early communication and interaction.
Inspire Pathway - for children developing independence and communication, often beginning to access parts of the National Curriculum.
Engage Pathway - for children who are able to access the National Curriculum but experience significant social and emotional barriers.
Four Key Areas of Learning:
1. Communication and Interaction: Helping children express themselves in ways that work for them - using speech, visuals, gestures, or technology. Communication is embedded in all activities and built through real-life, meaningful experiences.
2. Cognitive Development: Supporting children in exploring, problem-solving and making sense of the world around them. This includes early literacy, numeracy, memory and thinking skills, delivered in a hands on and playful ways.
3. Wellbeing: Promoting emotional regulation, physical activity, creativity, and sensory development. Activities like art, music, dance, and swimming help children build confidence and manage their emotions.
4. Independence: Preparing children for life by developing important skills like self-care, social awareness, and decision-making. These are taught naturally throughout the school day and supported by experiences both in and outside school.
How Do We Know It's Working?
We regularly assess each child's progress using well-established tools like Cherry Garden Maps and the SCERTS Framework, which help track communication, emotional development, and learning. This allows us to personalise learning targets and ensure children are always moving forward in ways that are meaningful to them.
Working Together
Our curriculum is about more than just academics - it's about helping every child grow in confidence, enjoy learning and feel included in their school community. By working in partnership with families, we ensure every child has the support they need to achieve their full potential.
Throughout the day, adults will facilitate high quality adaptive play-based learning opportunities, both indoors and outdoors to support the pupils academic learning journey as well as their independence, life skills and emotional regulation.
Pupil's emotional regulation and pupil's understanding of their emotional needs is a fundamental aspect upon which learning opportunities are based upon. Pupil's wellbeing is supported by adults who will help to co-regulate emotional responses to challenging situations.
We work in close partnership with families, therapists, and education professionals to create a learning journey that is both personal and purposeful. Whether it's developing communication skills, building independence, or encouraging creativity, we celebrate every step forward!
